Drink up.
Your favorite canned beverage may help in the fight against cancer.
The American Legion Lloyd Grubbs Post 49, 108 Green Ave. in Orange, is serving as a drop-off location to collect can tabs. The tabs are weighed to see how much they're worth and the proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House in Houston, according to Yvonne Trahan, auxiliary treasurer.
Trahan explained the tabs can be used to buy paper towels, toilet tissue, etc. for rooms where parents stay while their children are receiving treatment.
The American Legion John C. Bowdon Post 208 in Vinton is also participating in the program.
“This helps a good cause,” Trahan said. “A lot of people are saving tabs and it has grown from there and we want the American Legion to get some recognition.”
John Dupre, financial officer and club room chairman for the post, said they will recycle some tabs this week.
He said this program provides a place for parents to stay who can't afford lodging while their child is at the Ronald McDonald House.
To make a drop-off of your collected can tabs for more information, contact either Yvonne Trahan or John Dupre at the Lloyd Grubbs Post 49. Their phone number is 409-886-1241.
