Lamar University will present an exhibition of student brass players on Tuesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m.in the Rothwell Recital Hall. The performance will showcase brass ensembles from the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music, including trumpets, French horns, and trombones, as well as a combined brass choir. The concert will feature diverse styles of music such as classical, sacred, folk, pop and more. Admission is free.
“The brass choir is a new ensemble at Lamar University and the students and faculty are very excited with the collaboration of the brass en mass,” said Brian Shook, assistant professor of trumpet. “The brass choir will be performing two very explosive fanfares, a gorgeous arrangement of Morten Lauridsen’s choral work, ‘O Magnum Mysterium,’ and an arrangement of Imogen Heap’s pop tune ‘Hide and Seek.’”
Other selections that will be performed include “Sonoran Desert Harmonies,” by Eric Ewazen; “Titanic Fantasy,” by James Horner; “Pilgrims Chorus,” by Richard Wagner; “Scarborough Fair,” arranged by Bill Reichenbach; “Achieved is the Glorious Work (The Creation),” by Franz Joseph Haydn; “Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare,” by Richard Strauss; and many others.
