Community comes to the aid of cancer patient

Family and friends are asking the community to help a beloved daughter, mother, sister and friend in a benefit they're holding on her behalf.

Nicole Regel, 25, a single mother of two, was diagnosed six months ago with a rare form of uterine cancer. She is currently recovering from a complicated surgery and she now faces a long series of chemotherapy and radiation treatments along with numerous tests and doctor appointments.

The benefit will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 at Mudbugs, 18437 Highway 62 in Orange. The auction will start at 5 p.m.

There will be a live band, a raffle, food and a bake sale. Raffle tickets cost $10.

The raffle will include an acoustic guitar and a Winchester 12-gauge pump action shotgun with two barrels.

A flyer for the benefit read this has taken a serious toil on both her and their family.

“Nicole has conveyed unbelievable strength and optimism throughout it all,” it read. “Despite a scary diagnosis, she is putting a smile on her face and continuing to help people in her time of need. That's the person she has always been- someone who will set her own needs aside for everyone else.”

The benefit will raise funds to help relieve some of the financial burden of medical bills and daily expenses. It will help support Regel and her two young children through difficult times.

Organizers of the benefit are in need of corporate sponsors that would donate raffle prizes, financial donations or become a T-shirt sponsor.
