Orange man killed in bicycle/auto crash

A 38 year old Orange man was struck and killed as he rode a bicycle on Hwy. 12 in Orange County last night.

According to DPS Trooper Stephanie Davis, Raymond Lamar Ross was legally riding his bicycle in the East bound shoulder shortly before 11:00 pm, when a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro driven by 39 year old Ralph Birdwell, of Vidor, passed another vehicle on the right, near Woodland Dr., striking Ross and killing him.

Birdwell was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, where he was treated and released.

Trooper Davis said investigators are still working to determine facts surrounding the case. She said troopers suspect that alcohol was a factor in this crash.
