Philmon Lee Smith, Sr., 76, of Port Arthur, died Friday, Nov. 20. He was born Sept. 30, 1939, in Campti, La, to Bessie Mae Slaughter Smith and Arthur Tyler Smith, and had been a longtime resident of the area.
Philmon served in the United States Marine Corps, and was a retired Firefighter from the City of Port Arthur with 30 years of service. He served as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Port Acres for many years. Philmon enjoyed woodworking and traveling. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Pat Smith, of Port Acres; sons, Phil Smith, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Port Acres, Terry Smith and his wife, Martha, of Vidor, Jeff Smith and his wife, Anna, of Bridge City, Tracy Smith and his wife, Trina, of Allen and David Smith, of Port Acres; daughter, Laura Smith, of Port Acres; grandchildren, Jessica, Jeffrey, Anna Maria, Angela, Joshua, Kayla, Garrett, Troy, Peter, Adam, Rebecca and Jenny; great-grandchildren, Damion, Corbin, Page, Joshua, Gwendalyn, Trista, Isabella, Brayden and Natalie and brother, Robert Smith and his wife, Jackie Sue, of Hemphill.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of Mr. Smith’s family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 23, at Calvary Baptist Church, 2208 Canal Street, Port Acres. His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Calvary Baptist Church, Port Acres, with his interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, Nederland.
