Harrington Garners CSM All-America Honor

Lamar University junior running back Kade Harrington has been named College Sports Madness First-Team All-American announced Fred Wesler, CSM Director of Operations, Thursday morning.

The honor comes on the heels of a record-setting campaign that saw Harrington lead the nation in total rushing yards, rush yards per game, all-purpose yards per game, rushing touchdowns, finish second nationally in points per game and third nationally in yards per carry.

Harrington set numerous records during the 2015-16 campaign, becoming just the seven back in NCAA Division I history to rush for 2,000 yards in just 10 games – a list that includes Barry Sanders and Marcus Allen.

Harrington attacked the school’s single-game rushing record almost on a weekly basis, recording eight of the school’s top 16 single-game performances this season.

He ended the year as the Southland’s single-game and single-season leader in rushing yards, and just missed the league’s all-purpose record.

He also set new league standards for points per game and rush yards per game, while setting the school’s single-season all-purpose yards mark.

Harrington enters his senior season already tops on the LU career rushing list, surpassing former All-American Burton Murchison late in the season.

A three-time Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week selection, Harrington recorded 63 runs of at least 10 yards this year. He also had eight runs of 50 or more and three of at least 70. All of this while setting a new program record for consecutive 100-yard rushing performances – a streak that included six games of at least 200 yards, and a single-game record of 347 against Abilene Christian.

A two-time STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week selection, Harrington became the first Cardinal in program history to be named Southland Player of the Year. The honor coming just two years after Harrington became the first Cardinal to receive Southland Freshman of the Year honors.

Harrington is one of three finalist for the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Year award (formerly known as the Walter Payton Award) – considered the FCS version of the Heisman Trophy. The STATS award will be presented Friday, Jan. 8, at the awards ceremony in Frisco, Texas. Harrington is joined by Marshaun Coprich (Running Back – Illinois State) and Cooper Kupp (Wide Receiver – Eastern Washington).

Harrington will enter his final year of eligibility as the school’s all-time leader in all-purpose yards, rushing yards, career 100-yard rushing games, career scoring and seventh in total offense. He already ranks in the Southland’s career top 10 in rushing yards, all-purpose yards, rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns and career scoring.
