LU Athletics teams up with ESPN

The Lamar University Athletics Department has joined forces with ESPN to deliver live coverage of home men’s and women’s basketball games for this season and home football games beginning with the 2016 season. The package starts tonight with a basketball doubleheader against the University of New Orleans. The women’s game will start at 5 p.m., with the men’s game slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

All nine remaining women’s home games and eight of the nine remaining men’s games will be on ESPN3. The Jan. 11 men’s game vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will be televised by the American Sports Network.

Cardinals fans can watch LU home games on ESPN3 online at ESPN3.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app or stream on televisions through Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 or Xbox One. ESPN3 is available in more than 99 million households at no additional cost to fans with an affiliated internet or video provider, including Time Warner Cable, DirecTV and Dish Network.

"Lamar University is honored and excited to work with ESPN in the coverage of our home games," LU Director of Athletics Jason Henderson said. "This move supports our commitment to provide our student-athletes with maximum national exposure. We look forward to a long relationship with ESPN."

Lamar University will produce all of the on-campus games. Video Coordinator Clint Burges will lead the production crew. Local sports anchor Andrew Chernoff will do the play-by-play for both of tonight’s games. Jordan Washington of the Big Red Sports Network will provide analysis for the women’s game, while local TV personality Dan Gresham will be the analyst for the men’s game.

The rest of the duties, including technical directors, replay technicians, graphics operators and camera operators, will continue to be filled by members of the BRSN staff.

“We believe we have the best video department in the Southland Conference,” Burges said. “This will give us a chance to not only showcase our athletic department, but will also give our students excellent opportunities to work on a professional production that will prepare them for their careers.”
