Mother's Day is only one month away, and a new contest being sponsored by a local organization will surely make it even more joyous.
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce has announced its first-ever "Mother of the Year" contest for those who work or live in the Bridge City and Orangefield communities. However, the person nominating the candidate for "Mother of the Year" is not required to live within the specified area.
Nomination letters should be submitted should be mailed or delivered to the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce office, which is located at 150 W. Roundbunch Road, Bridge City, Texas, 77611. The envelope should be marked "Mother of the Year" and the nomination letter is not to exceed 250 words.
The nomination letter should include several key points, including past and present family involvement, as well as any community service or other services which highlight this individual. The letter should include the name, address and telephone number of the mother being nominated, as well as a current photograph.
The deadline to submit a letter nominating a candidate is no later than 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 27.
"The chamber's main objective is to promote the businesses in community, but without the individuals in our community our businesses could not succeed," said Scot C. Shaffer, president of the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce. "This was our way of reaching out to the community.
"The mother is typically the glue-piece of the family," he added. "We want to recognize a woman as our 'Mother of the Year' for all she does."
The winner of the Mother of the Year contest will be recognized at 8 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, during the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce's Monthly Networking Coffee, which will be held at Five Point Credit Union, 715 Texas Ave., Suite A, in Bridge City. Also, the winner of the "Mother of the Year" will be recognized at the Bridge City Chamber of Commerce's Annual Banquet on Jan. 9, 2017, along with other award recipients.
