Seven student proposals have been awarded Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships, the Office of Undergraduate Research at Lamar University announced.
The proposals were selected from a field of 31 proposals for summer research. The Fellowships include a stipend for student and mentors, as well as research support.
Local student receiving fellowships is Luke Placette, Bridge City, mechanical engineering, for “Modeling the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Nanotube Composites,” with Professor Xuejun Fan.
The Office of Undergraduate Research creates, facilitates and enhances opportunities for students interested in conducting undergraduate research. The office allows undergraduates to make a difference in their fields and form strong mentor relationships with faculty members in their respective disciplines.

The Office helps students find and develop opportunities to engage in collaborative research with faculty members and other mentors amongst the campuses academic disciplines. The Office provides funding opportunities for student research and scholarship through a range of programs.
