Lamar University’s Cardinal Jazz Singers' concert on Thursday, April 28, will feature a variety of contemporary jazz selections from artists such as Bobby McFerrin and Kerry Marsh and new music composed by faculty member Rebecca Windham, all performed a cappella or with a live rhythm section. The free concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Rothwell Recital Hall.
Windham, instructor of voice in the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music, directs the ensemble, now completing its third year of performing vocal jazz.
“We have had a very busy semester of performances, which will culminate in our annual spring concert,” said Windham. “I’m very pleased with how our program is growing and giving such a variety of students the opportunity to learn to sing together who might not necessarily connect otherwise. Music is a very powerful communication tool that can bring people together to follow their passion. We plan to continue to grow and build our vocal jazz and contemporary repertoire into next fall and beyond.”
Membership in the Cardinal Jazz Singers is open to all LU students regardless of major as well as to the community at large. For more information, including audition requirements, contact the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music at (409) 880-8144, e-mail [email protected].
