The Farmer's Wife

Hello Everyone,

     I hope this week finds you better than last week.

This has been an extremely hard week for me. One of my dearest and most favorite person on earth suddenly went to be with the Lord. Lester Daigle was like a son to me. I watched him grow up from a boy to a fine man. He was an advocate for all who were considered the " underdog", especially kids. He was a good Christian and knew what God needed him to do in life. He will be remembered for many different things, but the memory embedded in my heart is his infectious sense of humor and his undying love for his family and friends.

Ride High on that mountain Les, your work on earth is done. Have a blessed week everyone.

                          August 19-25

Aug 19,22,23 - kill weeds, destroy roots, plant above ground crops, plant annual flowers.

Aug 20, 21- Good for cultivating. Do not plant or transplant

Aug 24,25- Transplant, irrigate, kill pest, bud and graft.

Weevils

     Weevils are a Big family. They are small and hard she'll like a beetle. They attack potatoes,tomatoes, turnips, carrots and many other vegetables, nuts, grains and field crops.

Vegetable Weevils

  Vegetable Weevils go after many Texas garden crops. Both grubs and adults feed on plants, primarily at night. Damage may resemble that of cut worms. 

     Control of these pest is successful by using a pythrin or Permethrin  spray or dust. You need to spray adult weevils before they lay eggs. Apply thoroughly to the whole plant and around the base of the plant.

                                Lemon Squares

Crust

1 c butter, melted

2 c sifted flour

1/2 c powdered sugar

1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees spray a 13x9 pan with Pam. Mix ingredients and pat in bottom of pan. Bake for 20 minutes.

Topping

4 eggs, beaten

2 c sugar

4 tbsp sifted flour

5 tbsp fresh lemon juice

1 1/2 tbsp lemon zest

     Mix ingredients well and pour into baked crust. Put back in oven an2 bake for 25 minutes. When cool, sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into squares.
