Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Games This Week
WEST ORANGE-STARK over NEWTON—The Mustangs were supposed to play Jasper last week, but the game was canceled due to Hurricane Laura. However, Jasper scheduled a game with Newton last week and really walloped the Eagles. I would have picked the Mustangs to beat Jasper last week, so consequently I believe WO-S will beat Newton Friday night based on my crazy philosophy.
WOODVILLE over LITTLE CYPRESS-MAURICEVILLE—The Eagles had a state-ranked Class 3A team last year and have many of their players back for 2020. Woodville already has blown out two teams (Karnes City 56-12 and Corrigan-Camden 48-7) but will face their toughest foe Friday night. Let’s hope the Bears can open their season on the right foot with an upset victory.
BRIDGE CITY over ANAHUAC—The Cardinals look much improved from last season and should be able to overpower this opponent quite handily.
ORANGEFIELD over BUNA—The Bobcats played well against Livingston last week and lost when coach Josh Smalley went for the victory on a two-point conversion at the waning moments of the game and came up short 20-19. The Cougars are always scrappy, but the ‘Cats have too many weapons.
VIDOR over BAY CITY—The Pirates opened the season on a successful note last week and should remain undefeated after their trip to Bay City Friday night.
WARREN over DEWEYVILLE—Both teams are fresh from impressive victories last week with the Warriors blanking West Hardin 41-0 while the Pirates whipped Colmesneil 46-6. But the Warriors will wear down the Pirates and eke out a victory.
HIGH SCHOOL—Splendora over Hamshire-Fannett, Jasper over Hardin-Jefferson, Liberty over Shepherd, Texarkana Pleasant Grove over Silsbee, East Chambers over Lumberton, Hearne over Hardin, Grapeland over Kirbyville, Tarkington over Coldspring, Hemphill over Huntington, Hitchcock over Kountze, San Augustine over Winnsboro, Groveton over Shelbyville, Hull-Daisetta over West Hardin, Colmesneil over High Island, Cushing over Evadale, Mount Enterprise over Burkeville, Tenaha over Clifton, League City Bay Area Christian over Beaumont Legacy Christian, Beaumont Kelly over Carrollton Prince of Peace, Navasota over Huffman, Livingston over Diboll.
