From Coach Lauren Martin…
The Lady Bears played a very physical game against the Lumberton Lady Raiders on Tuesday night in Bear Stadium. The Lady Bears played their hearts out and left it all on the field despite the 1-0 loss. The game was back and forth for the entire first half. During the last four minutes of the first half the Lady Raiders looked to capitalize on a Lady Bear foul in the box. Junior goalie Matalyn Hill held her ground, blocked the penalty kick, blocked the follow up shot, and the Lady Bear defense was able to get ball out of the box. The big time save by Hill kept the Lady Bears momentum alive, with the Battlin’ Bears going into half tied at 0-0 with the stout Lady Raiders. Both teams came out ready to play in the second half. The intensity and drive from both teams kept it very close. The Lady Bear defense made up of Amanda Rodriguez, Loren Rodriguez, Kaylee Potter, Semma’ Alhatri, MaKenzie Holland, and Anayeli Hernandez kept the Lady Raiders scoreless until 68 minutes into the game. Offensive standouts on the night were Annabelle Fisher, Brooklyn Leonard, Lili Moullec, McKenze Freeman, and Mariah Ammons. The Lady Bears are tied for second in district with their 7-3 record. They have a bye on Friday, but will return Tuesday night at 5PM in Bear Stadium with their last home game of the season against cross town rival Bridge City.
