Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Our weather improved and so did several of the area’s HS track and field performances at the Woodville, Nederland and Vidor track meets last week.
The area scenes shift to Port Arthur, Anahuac and Jasper on this next-to-last March weekend and it’s getting late early, as Yogi Berra once said about another spring sport.
It’s getting late before the district meets yet early in the ‘21 season for coaches to sort out their relay teams into the best possible order.
With spring break in progress, the participation at the meets Is quite uncertain. However a star-studded field of athletes is scheduled to converge on the Memorial campus artificial track for the Titan Relays.
Port Arthur coach Darrell Granger listed both BISD schools, Nederland, Dickinson, Barbers Hill and Humble to join his host Memorial squad on Friday.
Kirk Moore and the blue-ribbon Anahuac coaching staff will host its annual Gid Campbell Relays on Thursday in Kyle White Stadium. East Chambers, Hamshire-Fannett, Orangefield and
Hardin-Jefferson are four area squads originally committed to join Anahuac on that one. The 35th annual Campbell event also will entertain Crosby, Liberty, Baytown Lee, and Evadale.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville included Thursday’s Jasper meet on its pre-district schedule. LC-M is paced by the sophomore on the left Annabelle Fisher who continues to lower her best times in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter events.
Vidor’s girls and Orangefield’s boys deserve congrats for the team title honors in the Pirate Relays. Barbers Hill’s fine teams swept both team trophies at Nederland. The name which got my attention in that meet was PN-G junior Sanaria Butler who garnered 35 points with three individual gold medals and a leg on a gold-medal winning relay squad.
My gratitude goes out to the stat crew at those meets for their outstanding help. We also wish to thank BC girls coach Jamie DeShazo for helping to fix some inaccurate stuff on last week’s list of area leaders. Most of my time, as you know, is having to be directed to my wife who has cataract surgery on March 22 in addition to being a kidney dialysis patient. Otherwise, I would be at the meets as usual.
