Gladys Faye Martin, 95, Orange

Gladys Faye Martin, 95, of Orange, passed away on October 4, in Nederland. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 16, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 15, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Vinton, Louisiana, on August 8, 1926, Gladys was the daughter of Vores Sonier and Emma Gladys (Reed) Sonier. She was a woman that always made sure everyone around her felt loved by filling their bellies with her amazing cooking, repairing a favorite article of clothing, or just lending a helping hand. Gladys was a fantastic seamstress and enjoyed making homemade quilts. not to mention working in the fabric department at Walmart. The happiest she was occurred when she was outdoors, whether it was gardening, hunting, fishing, or just traveling around with her loving husband, Jim. Gladys loved her family and friends deeply and she will be dearly missed by all those that held her close.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vores and Emma Sonier; husband, James “Jim” Martin, and children, Charles Mott, Diane Anderson, and Mary Ellen McGee. Gladys is survived by her daughter Belinda James and spouse Walt Wheeler of Bridge City; stepdaughter, Carolyn Martin and Charles Butch Martin of Houston; grandchildren, Peggy Tyler, LeeJay Eckhardt, and Major James; five great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; brother, L.J. Sonier of Mauriceville; as well as numerous other family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Major James, Chad Payne, Hunter Denton, John Wheeler, Nick Wheeler, and Jake Landry. Honorary pallbearer is Walt Wheeler.
