Clarence Alton Droddy, 83

Clarence Alton Droddy, age 83, passed away October 21, 2021, near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Clarence was born in Call, Texas on January 8th, 1938, to parents Lexie Droddy and Vivian (Smith) Droddy. Clarence loved Texas and spent much of his life in and around Orange County. He graduated from Buna High School in 1955 and, in 1956, married the love of his life, Barbara Strahan, with whom he shared over 62 happy years of marriage. He served in the United States Air Force before going to work for Spencer Chemical Company, which would later become Gulf Oil and Chevron, and retired as an E&I Maintenance Supervisor after 37 years. Later, in 2006, Clarence moved to Washington State where he lived for eight years before moving to Simpsonville, South Carolina. He was a founding member of Eagle Heights Church in Orange and was an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Simpsonville.

Clarence loved fishing and spent many happy days at the lake with his family. He loved to travel and see the world and had the opportunity to travel all over the United States after his retirement. He loved drinking coffee, playing dominoes, and serving in the church, but above all, he loved his family. He leaves behind a legacy of faith and selfless love to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Strahan Droddy; parents, Lexie Droddy and Vivian Smith; sister, Tressie McClure; brother, Carrol Droddy; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Droddy; mother and father in-law, Bertha and John Everett Strahan; and brother-in-law, Jim Scarbrough. 

He is survived by his three children; daughter, Cheryl Squires and husband Danny; son, John Droddy and wife Alicia, and son, Robert Droddy; and his three grandchildren, Matthew Squires, Olivia Droddy, and Erin Droddy. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Droddy; sisters-in-law, Mary Dell Droddy, Imogene Droddy, and Jenny Scarbrough, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services for Clarence will be held at  10:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2021, at Bridgepoint Fellowship Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Pastor Lance Faulkner. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., October 29, 2021, at Broaddus Cemetery in Broaddus, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Droddy, Phil McClure, Mike Droddy, Dane Droddy, Ed Scarbrough, Keith Kemper and James Michael Droddy.
