Angel Mamie Delight Johnson, 62, Orange

Angel gained her wings to Heaven on Monday, November 15, 2021 with her sister by her side. She was 62 years old.

Angel was born August 28, 1959, in Hahira, Georgia to A.C. and Goldie Johnson.

Angel had Downs Syndrome, but this did not hold her back from being a very independent child. She could color the most perfect pictures.

She loved to sit for hours and color the day or night away.

Her favorite movie was The Wizard of Oz. She would even cackle like the Wicked Witch of the West when she watched the movie. Her favorite character was Dorothy.

She loved Elvis Presley and would sit for hours and play his 45’s over and over. She especially loved the Elvis movie Blue Hawaii. There were times when she watched the movie that she would get up and dance to the music. She loved Barnabus Collins from the movie Dark Shadows, she could sit and watch that for hours. Ice cream cokes were often her favorite snack while watching Barnabus or The Wizard of Oz.

She will be missed very much by all of her loved ones. Especially her sister, Darleen, who took care of her after their Mother passed away.

Angel loved everyone she met and she never met a stranger.

Everyone she met was her friend, and she always asked every lady “Are you gonna have a baby?”. She was always smiling and would try to shake everyone’s hand that would shake back.

She never complained about anything. She was just that loving.

When it was time for a new baby to be born in the family, she could be heard saying “It’s a girl, just like me” and she would get huffed if the baby was a boy. But she loved each and every baby that was born into our family whether it was a boy or girl.

Her birthday was her absolute favorite time of the year. A huge party was thrown for her every year by her nieces, Renee’ and Michelle. She was showered with tons of presents and lots of loving family. Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs were on the menu every birthday dinner. Angel would pick her cake out herself and her niece Renee’ would bake and decorate it with lots of love.

Angel is preceded in death by her parents A.C. and Goldie Johnson. Sister, DeWana Melton, her grandparents, Charlie and Mamie Trammel, and her aunt, Jaye Rush whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her sister Darleen Hodges (Kenneth P. Hodges) of Orange, Texas and Pitkin, LA.

Her nieces, Elizabeth Renee’ Ansley (Greg Ansley) of Orange, Texas; Michelle McDonald (Scott McDonald) of Orange, Texas; Kenneth R. Hodges (Dawn Hodges) of Nederland, Texas.

She was loved by many more nieces, nephews and extended family across the country.
