Janet Alene Didrikson passed away with dementia at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, LA on March 18, 2022, at the age of 86 years old.
Janet was born in Cleveland, Texas on March 15, 1936, to F.W. (Dick) Whitmire and Estelle Painter Whitmire.
Janet graduated from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange and attended Lamar College in Beaumont where she met the love of her life, Richard L. (Dick) Didrikson. Together they spent 67 beautiful years together and raised their two daughters, Donna Didrikson Abel and Susan Didrikson Champagne.
Janet enjoyed life to its fullest. She was a great homemaker, loving mother, wonderful wife, and a good & loyal friend to all that knew her.
She enjoyed watching birds, feeding squirrels, hummingbirds, reading, dancing, gardening, yard work, trips to Destin Florida, their camp at Toledo Bend Lake. So many other things in life…too numerous to mention here. Her life motto was “Keep on Keepin’ On!”
Janet A. Didrikson is survived by her husband, Dick Didrikson; daughters and their husbands, Donna G. and Russell (Rusty) Abel and Susan R.D. and Randall (Randy) G. Champagne.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents.
Visitation for Janet will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2022 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2022 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.
