City Councilman Election Statement for Sherby Dixon

The following is a political statement by Sherby Dixon:

My name is Sherby Dixon, and I am running for Council member for the Bridge City City Council Place 6. I am requesting your vote in the upcoming city election on Saturday, May 7.

It would be my pleasure to serve the community I was born and raised in. Thank you to all of my neighbors and friends who have encouraged me to run for council. I am truly humbled by the support, which motivates me to do whatever I can for our community. I will be proud to serve beside the current men and women on the council that have been instrumental in completing many city goals.

My wife and I have four children: Letisha Dixon Curl, Desiree' Dixon Theriot, Maegan Dixon Stanley, and Todd Dixon, who all graduated from Bridge City High School as well as my wife and I. We have eight grandchildren and one is currently attending the elementary school with most of the rest set to attend BCISD.

I have coached our children in various Little League sports. I volunteer with CASA of the Sabine Neches Region (child advocacy program). I have volunteered in the past with the Friends of the Bridge City Public Library; I was a board member of the Cardinal Athletic Booster Club and was a volunteer with the Bridge City Historical Society. My wife, Cil, and I attend Commonground Community Church in Bridge City where we volunteer and attend Life Group Bible Study.

I retired in 2020 after 40 years of service with Bridge City ISD and my wife, Cecilia (Cil) is currently the athletic director's assistant for our school district. As a supervisor with the district, I feel this experience makes me uniquely and better qualified to be a council member. I have decided to dedicate my time working with the city council to improve our community.

If elected I will work hard for the citizens and continue projects that were begun by others. I feel we are going to be able to come up with innovative solutions to some of the problems our city has faced in the past. I have seen Bridge City grow in the 64 years that I have lived here, and would like to see more family-oriented events. In addition, I would like to acknowledge our hard working small business owners and encourage you to shop local! In the recent past, our city has seen its share of natural disasters etc. Because we are a close-knit community our citizens came together to help one another and get Bridge City back on track in a remarkable amount of time. All of these things make me feel very fortunate to live here.

I believe as a citizen of Bridge City I can make a difference, and I would like the opportunity to give back to my community. After sharing with you who I am, what my values are and what I stand for. I hope that you have a better sense of who I am and feel good about your vote on May 7. Early voting is April 25 to May 3.
