"CJ" Charles Jim Huckaby, 89, Pinehurst

"CJ" Charles Jim Huckaby, age 89 of Pinehurst, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022 in Beaumont, Texas. Services to honor CJ were held at on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home with Aaron Little officiating. Interment was immediately following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Orange. Family and friends will gathered for visitation on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home.

CJ was born in Orange, Texas on November 10, 1932 to parents, Mildred Elizabeth Dorman Huckaby and George Terry Huckaby. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. CJ was a member of McArthur Heights Baptist Church and served as a Scottish Rite Mason with Madison Lodge #125. He opened Pinehurst Automotive in 1958 and was in business for 42 years. Pinehurst Automotive was an associate dealership for Datsun from 1967-72, Indian motorcycles from '74-78 and after that got into fleet repair and foreign car work.

CJ was a very giving, loving and hard working man; however he could get a little stubborn at times. He believed being honest was the only way to be. CJ was a man of faith and always believed in helping others, even those who wronged him at times. He had a passion for the Pinehurst Community and was so excited to see become incorporated. He first served his beloved community as the Fire Chief and Fire Marshall of the Volunteer Fire Department, which meant so much to CJ and his dad, George. CJ and his Dad procured the first fire truck for Pinehurst and drove all the way to Ohio to get it. He then served as a Councilman for the City of Pinehurst. CJ was later elected as the Mayor of Pinehurst and served for two terms. His servant's heart never seemed to quit and he was elected as the County Commissioner Precinct 2, where he served from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 1998.

CJ also enjoyed being on his farm in Mauriceville, where he raised cattle and spent countless hours riding his tractor. Mowing was one of his favorite things to do and he was doing it till he became ill a few weeks ago. He was also a good Dad and Grandfather to his three boys and grandchildren. CJ impacted many people thought-out his long life and he will greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Bessie Huckaby and his parents, George and Mildred Huckaby.

Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy are his three sons; Terry Huckaby and his wife Laura of Katy, TX, Brent Huckaby of LaPorte, TX and Kevin Bourque and his wife Dana of Bridge City, TX, three grandchildren; Ashlyn Huckaby, Colton Huckaby and Brittany Granger and her husband Brandon and a great grandchild Brooklyn Granger.

Pallbearers honoring CJ will be Jason Dyson, Josh Dyson, Trevor Jones, John Kalna, Brandon Granger and Billy Young.
