AAUW Scholarship Recipients

On Wednesday, June 8th, the Orange Branch of the American Association of University Women,

AAUW, held their annual scholarship luncheon at Old Orange Café.  Each Spring, a deserving female graduate from West Orange-Stark and one from Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School is chosen to receive a scholarship awarded by AAUW.  This year our recipients are Sidnye Ardoin, representing WO-S, and Abbigail Hudnall, representing LC-M.

Sidnye is the daughter of Latoya Williams, and she plans to attend Prairie View A & M University this fall.  She has always had a great love of animals, so she will put that to good use by majoring in veterinary science at Prairie View.

Her activities at WO-S have included Honor Society, Student Council, and as captain of the girls’ basketball team.  She also volunteered at her church and in the community.

Abbigail, the LC-M recipient, is the daughter of Michael Hudnall, and Christi Gilsson, and she plans to begin her higher education at Lamar State College-Orange, majoring in nursing.

Her activities at LC-M included participation in the Bear band, the powerlifting team, and the LC-M school organization Health Occupation Students of America, which is designed for those students wishing to pursue employment in the medical field.

Abbigail is very active in her church where her uncle, Stephen Hudnall, is pastor.

AAUW is a non-profit organization, so all funds for scholarships are earned from our used book sale held annually at Art in the Park.
