Charles "Wig" Willard Williams, 70, Devil's Pocket

Charles “Wig” Willard Williams, age 70, of the Devil’s Pocket community in Newton County, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2022. Services to remember his life will be Wednesday, September 28th at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange. Interment will immediately follow at Suddeth Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday, September 27th at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dorman Funeral Home.

Born December 1, 1951 in Orange, Texas to Lee Williams and Arbell (VanPelt) Williams, he was a lifelong resident of the Devil’s Pocket Area.

He worked at the Evadale Paper Mill for 46 years before retiring in 2019 as a Team Lead. Charles was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time fishing, trapping, and gardening.

He was given the nickname “Wig” (short for Wiggles) by his father because he was always wiggling and on the go.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Williams; his parents, Lee and Arbell Williams; his brothers, Jesse “Buddy” Williams, Thomas “Pap” Williams, Cecil Williams, and Eddie “Poe” Williams; his sister, Pauline Hooks.

He is survived by his children, Belinda Williams and Charlie Williams; his brother, Ben Williams; his sisters, Betty Jo Lavine, Deloris Harris, and Sally Vance. He is also survived by his granddaughter Susannah Dingmon.

His memory will be cherished by all his friends and family.

Pallbearers to honor Charles will be Cecil Williams Jr., Josh Dingmon, Roger Sutton, Justin Sutton, Tommy Harris and David Ortolon. Honorary pallbearers will be Conrad Hudson (dearly departed), Larry “Gator” Lavine, Terry Weir, Cecil Gore, Charles Adkins, JW Kelly and Bill Graham.
