Jan Brown, 71, Groves

Jan Brown, 71, of Groves, Texas, passed away on October 1, 2022, at her home in Groves.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Encounter Church in Groves. Officiating will be Pastor Brent Sparks. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Encounter Church in Groves.

Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on March 24, 1951, she was the daughter of Fred Viator and Joyce (Hoffpauir) Viator. Jan worked hard her entire life. She was the manager of the original Burger Town in Bridge City and in recent years, she worked as the manager at Valero. Jan was a very spiritual woman and enjoyed being a member of Encounter Church in Groves. She had a big heart and gave back every chance she could. Jan’s world revolved around her family, and she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Memaw.” She loved spending time with them and took pride in teaching them new things. Jan also enjoyed playing cards every weekend and cooking for her loved ones. She made the best Cajun food and chicken and dumplings. Jan looked forward to the holidays every year. She especially loved Christmas and enjoyed the holiday Hallmark movies. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, “O.D.” Brown; her brothers, Claude Viator and Blain Viator; and her best friend, Kathy Duckworth.

She is survived by her children, Shelley Waddell and husband Russell of Groves, Kent Brown and wife Bonnie of Silsbee, Kathy Brown of Nederland, and Teresa Siemek and husband Tim of Crosby; grandchildren, Jareb Logan and wife Taylor, Emmalee Daville and husband Andrew, Ethan Waddell, Janah Waddell, and Tabatha Brummett and husband, Austin of Sumter, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, Maddelyn Logan, Blake Logan, Rowland Brummett, and Pressley Ann Brummett; siblings, Zilda Viator, Theresa Babinueax and husband Karlan, Victor Viator and wife Kathy, Freddy Viator and wife Tina; as well as her fur baby, Peppi and turtle, Kane.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jareb Logan, Jody Viator, Jacob Viator, Bryson Viator, Andrew Daville, Christopher Griffin, Stuart Boudreaux, and Karlan Babineaux. Honorary pallbearers are Victor Viator and Freddy Viator.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to their dear friends Irene, Mandy, Dorothy, and Melissa Bland for their ongoing love and support.
