The Bridge City Lady Cardinals continue to rule the roost in district volleyball action. The Lady Cardinals remained undefeated through their first eight matches. Last week Bridge City swept both the Silsbee Lady Tigers on Tuesday and the second place Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears on Friday.
Coach Savanah DeLuna of the Lady Cardinals was surprised by her assistant coaches and the players with a special banner recognizing her more than one hundred wins as a volleyball head coach. The win against LCM gives DeLuna 107 wins as a head coach.
Bridge City won the three sets with the Lady Bears 25-21, 25-17, and 25-20. A shorter match than the one played earlier at Little Cypress-Mauriceville that required the full five sets.
Anna Kelly had a good match with 16 kills and 7 digs. Demi Carter likewise had a strong effort with 14 kills and 5 digs. Taryn Doiron did a little bit of everything with 6 kills, 7 digs, 19 assists, and 3 aces. Cambree LaComb was the top Lady Cardinal in assists with 20, and Lexi Nugier led the Lady Cardinals with 18 digs.
Against Silsbee the Lady Cardinals won three straight as Demi Carter stood out with 16 kills and 5 digs. Taryn Doiron was outstanding again with 14 kills, 15 assists, and 3 aces. Anna Kelly served 6 aces and had 8 kills. Lexi Nugier and Cambree LaComb both had 3 aces. Nugier also had 11 digs while LaComb led with 24 assists. Chloe Doyle contributed 5 blocks against the Lady Tigers.
On Tuesday Bridge City had its second half bye. The Lady Cardinals next match is Friday at Vidor.
