With the current Christmas break the Orangefield Lady Bobcats will be preparing for the annual Bill Tennison Tournament to be held the week between the Christmas and the New Year’s Day weekends. The tournament will be held at the Orangefield Gymnasium Tuesday and Wednesday, December 27-28.
The Lady Bobcats (1-2) dropped their last district game to the Buna Lady Cougars on Tuesday, December 13. It was a tough loss 34-31 at home for Orangefield.
Buna controlled the momentum and took a comfortable lead 22-11 at half time. The Lady Bobcats battled back in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Cougars 12-7 to cut the deficit to six points 29-23 with one quarter to play. Greenlea Oldham and Harleigh Rawls both scored four points on the comeback trail.
In the fourth quarter a basket by Oldham and a later free throw by Sterling Richard narrowed the Buna lead to two points with less than two minutes to play. The Lady Cougars had bumped it back up to five points when Brooklyn Wagoner of the Lady Bobcats nailed a three-pointer with ten seconds left. Buna made a free throw before Orangefield got the ball back trailing by three but a long shot at the buzzer missed securing the win for the Lady Cougars.
Oldham was the Lady Bobcats’ leading scorer with 9 points. Greenlea had a complete game with a co-team leading 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Rawls contributed 6 points, with 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Charlee Sanches tied Rawls at 6 points and had 6 rebounds. Richard played well with 5 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Steelye Franklin was strong on defense for the Lady Bobcats with 5 steals.
District action resumes for the Orangefield Lady Bobcats on January 3 at Hardin. The Lady Bobcats play Warren on January 6 at Orangefield.
