Elroy Perkins, 89, Bridge City

Elroy Perkins, 89, of Orange, passed away on December 28, 2022, peacefully at home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 4, 2023, at Bridge City United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Reverend Murray Ray. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m., at Bridge City United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City.

Born in Starks, Louisiana, on August 27, 1933, he was the son of Fred Perkins and Della Perkins. Elroy was a graduate of Starks High School in 1952, and then went into the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.Elroy said he joined the Air force to get out of Starks, only to be sent right back to a base in Lake Charles. He later retired from Quantum in 1993. Elroy had a lifelong love of fishing and boating. He enjoyed making memories at his cabin in Toledo Bend with family.

Elroy gave his life to God in 1980 and stayed active in his church, Bridge City United Pentecostal Church. He loved serving on the Port Arthur Police Force from 1959-1970. Elroy had a few nicknames such as “Perk” or “Coopy Roy.” He was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Della Perkins; and brother, John Perkins.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia Perkins; son, Jason Perkins and wife Rebecca; daughters, Cheryl Schexnider and husband Kurt, and Patty Alexander and husband Joe; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and other loving friends and family.
