Marvin Funchess, 91, Orange

Marvin Funchess, age 91, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Orange, Texas. 

Services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Little Cypress Baptist Church, Orange, Texas at 12:00PM. Pastor David Turner will be officiating. Rite of committal and internment will follow at Parish Cemetery.

Visitation of family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Little Cypress Baptist Church.

Marvin was born on Friday, March 13, 1931 in Orange, Texas to parents Francis Marvin Funchess and Claudia Alande Stockman.

A lifelong resident of Orange, Marvin had many passions and lived a very full life. He was a SGT in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He also loved horse racing, owning and caring for racing horses himself as well. Marvin was a very active member of Little Cypress Baptist Church where he enjoyed many activities. The church was his primary focus and he would volunteer wherever he was needed. Being a door greeter, the congregation was welcomed by his smiling face every Sunday. Marvin was also a member of the church's Senior Choir, where he loved to sing praises.

He also enjoyed playing dominoes at the church with his friends and would easily spend hours playing and visiting. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Claudia, his loving wife, Patsy, and eleven sisters.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Funchess, and wife Chris of Dickinson, Texas, his step-son, Ken Hauldren, his step-daughter, Polly Royer, his sisters, Peggy Fredrick and Edna Carper, his nieces, Mary Zang and Bonnie Bellard, his nephew, Sonny Bonnin, his grandchildren, Michael and Michelle, his great-grandchildren, Kason and Xander, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Little Cypress Baptist Church.
