Lady Bobcats win district opener in softball

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats finished in third place during the Cleveland Rotary Tournament the first weekend in March. Orangefield finished the tournament with three wins, one loss, and two ties.

On Thursday the Lady Bobcats defeated Tarkington and Humble. Orangefield tied Cleveland and Shepherd on Friday. The Lady Bobcats played Caney Creek on Saturday with a chance to advance to the championship game but lost 4-2. Later that day Orangefield won 4-1 over Cleveland to capture third place in the tournament.

Charlee Sanches of the Lady Bobcats hit a double and a homerun against Caney Creek. Aubree Beck had two hits including a double and scored a run for Orangefield in the loss.

Lady Bobcat pitcher Abigail Curphey threw five innings giving up just three hits and one run with four strikeouts in the win over Cleveland. Harleigh Rawls ripped two hits and scored a run. Abby Broussard socked a double and Hallee Becker scored a run for Orangefield. Sanches drove in two runs for the Lady Bobcats and Beck scored two runs.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats opened their district schedule with a victory on Tuesday, February 28, against the Kountze Lionettes. The Lady Bobcats won the game 3-1 at Orangefield.

Junior Abigail Curphey had a great performance in the circle for the Lady Bobcats giving up just one run on three hits. Curphey struck out seven Lionettes.

Freshman Hallee Becker swung the biggest bat for Orangefield going two for three with two runs scored. Senior Harleigh Rawls hit a double and drove in a run. Curphey also contributed to the Lady Bobcat cause with her bat getting a single and her hard hit ball resulted in a Kountze error that scored two teammates.

The Orangefield Lady Bobcats played their second district game on Tuesday, March 7, at Kirbyville.
