Hometown News For Orange County, Texas

Michael Roy Cornell, age 72, Orange

Michael Roy Cornell, age 72, of Orange, Texas, beloved Dad (Pop), brother and PawPaw was called home on Saturday March 11, 2023. Born on December 8, 1950, in Orange, Texas, to John Roy Cornell and Mary Alice Moore.

He was a proud Navy Veteran, having served during the Vietnam era on board the USS Wasp (CV-18) and the USS Sarsfield (DD-837). After his time in the service he returned back to Orange and started his family and career. He worked as an operator for American Steel and later as an electrician for Martin Electric which he retired from.

He would say his proudest accomplishments were raising his kids and watching his grandkids grow up. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, riding motorcycles, working on cars and carpentry. We were honored to have him as our Dad and PawPaw.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, Gary W. Cornell, brothers in law, Buddy D. Uzzle and Bruce W. Bingham Sr., best friend/brother, Glyn D. Shiyou and niece, Angie Wilson.

He is survived by his daughter, Kadence and her husband, Tobin Ross of Orangefield, son, Kristopher Roy and wife Lisa of Orangefield, his beloved grandchildren, Dylan, Raven and Rheilly, Cameron, Angel, Randi and Wynter, his sisters, Jodie Bingham, and Nina Cornell, brother, James Cornell and wife Mary, sister Kaye and husband Wayne Sullivan, and his faithful pup Sandy.

A special thanks from the entire family to Lisa for her dedicated daily care of "Pops" over his final couple of months and for keeping him laughing and the music going.

Services to honor Michael will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, beginning at 12:00 PM at Dorman Funeral Home. A visitation of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Honorary Pallbearers are Dylan Broussard, Dylan Ross, Daniel Cornell, and Cameron Wedgeworth.
