Johnny Sheppard, Jr., 91, of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 26, 2023, peacefully at home.
Born in Orangefield, Texas, on September 17, 1931, he was the son of Johnny Shepherd, Sr. and Grace Granger. Johnny graduated from Orangefield High School before he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Johnny proudly served for four years during the Korean War. He worked for DuPont for twenty-one years before going on to start Orangefield Waterworks. In his down time, Johnny enjoyed fishing at Toledo Bend and hunting in the Texas Hill Country. He loved to go dancing and enjoyed his frequent vacations in Las Vegas, Nevada. Johnny was an avid gardener and took care of his yard until he was 90 years old. He was not one to complain, even as he grew older. Johnny’s family will treasure the memories they have of him and will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Shepherd, Sr. and Grace Granger.
He is survived by his children, Romela Sheppard of Knoxville, Tennessee, Johnny Sheppard III and wife, Davie of Pine Forest, Texas, Perry Sheppard and wife, Pam of Alvin, Texas, and Cindy Overman and husband, Jeff of Orangefield; grandchildren, Jonathan Sheppard, Kurt Sheppard, Jennifer Sheppard, Nolan Sheppard, Breanna Holland, Ally Overman, Abby DuBois; great-grandchildren, Hazel Holland, Hattie Holland; as well as his sisters, Dorothy Berry, and Joyce Dennis.
Cremation will be held under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
