The district softball standings got even tighter last week as the Orangefield Lady Bobcats moved into a tie for first place. Three games were played in the last two weeks by Orangefield against the three other teams at the top of District 22-3A with the Lady Bobcats winning two out of three.
The Orangefield Lady Bobcats beat the Kirbyville Lady Wildcats 3-2 on Tuesday, April 4, at Paul Cormier Field. The win moves Orangefield into a tie for first place with Kirbyville. Both teams are 8-2 with the Lady Bobcats having beaten Kirbyville twice in district.
Orangefield pitcher Abigail Curphey was terrific in the circle allowing two runs on five hits to the Lady Wildcats. Curphey struck out eight and got the win for the Lady Bobcats.
Aubree Beck got the Lady Bobcats on the board in the bottom of the third with a homerun. Orangefield notched the winning runs in the sixth inning as Abby Broussard and Alysen Vincent were driven home by Hallee Becker and Harleigh Rawls.
The other game scheduled last week for Orangefield against East Chambers was postponed because of the weather. Three games are scheduled for this week as the Lady Bobcats played Warren on Tuesday, then the makeup with East Chambers on Wednesday, before facing Buna on Friday.
