Roy Ellison Bendy, 80, Orange

Roy Ellison Bendy, 80, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 2, 2023, in Beaumont, Texas. Born in Woodville, Texas, on September 12, 1942, he was the son of Allen Bendy and Margaret (Johnson) Bendy.

He loved his girls and made sure to teach them to be strong and independent women. He always made sure to look his best, whether he was going out on the town or just on a grocery run. Roy loved dancing and even taught his kids to dance the jitterbug, which they still do today.

He enjoyed cooking and would often invite his friends and loved ones for meals. To Roy, everyone was welcome- no need to knock, just come on in. He never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone in need. In his spare time,

Roy enjoyed being outdoors in the yard gardening and mowing the grass. He played hard, but he worked even harder. Roy retired after spending over 50 years as a tugboat captain.

He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Margaret Bendy; loving wife of 47 years, Pat Bendy; children, Rhonda Droddy and Nathan Ray Carrico; siblings, Johnny Bendy, Florene LeBlanc, Frances Hoosier, and Allen Bendy.

He is survived by his children, Dee Dee Viator and fiancé, Gary Peery of Orange, Rebecca Jean Harvey and husband, Robbin of Vidor, Melinda Ann Smith and husband, Frank of Pollock, Stacey Bendy Jeffrey and husband, John of Bridge City, and Dr. David Jones and wife, Danika of Orange; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jerry Hughes and husband, Maac; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.

Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home.
