Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Orangefield High School has its first student athlete in the school's history to sign a college scholarship to play golf at the next level. Xander Park signed with Jacksonville College on Monday, May 15, to play golf while attending the school in Jacksonville, Texas, beginning in the fall.
Orangefield golf coach Todd Trawhon is proud of Xander and his brother Lincoln. "We knew having Xander and his younger brother Lincoln in our program it was really going to help us out. We've been real successful mainly because of them. They've been good leaders and we're just really excited for them," Trawhon responded.
Xander Park and Lincoln Park have helped make the Orangefield boys golf team one of the best in this area. Xander and Lincoln will be competing in the University Interscholastic League state boys golf tournament on Monday and Tuesday, May 22-23.
In the regional boys 3A golf tournament held in April the Park brothers finished first and second. During the final eighteen holes Xander scored a 74 for the lowest round of the tournament to capture the top spot by three strokes over Lincoln who was the runner-up.
The highlight of the year for Xander so far was that regional tournament. Trawhon explained, "Xander has done better in the past, but he has really come on here in the end by winning the regional tournament. We're looking forward to going to the state tournament. I feel like both Xander and Lincoln should be in the top ten. There will be twelve teams so there's about seventy to eighty kids participating, and I think we've got a shot with those two. It will take a little luck maybe to win it all, but Xander has had a top seven and a top ten in the state tournament previously, so, we'd like to see him improve on that."
