Marilyn Leanne (Powelson) Johnston of Jasper, Texas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Marilyn was born on April 26, 1950, in McAllen, Texas. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1968. She married Howell Dayne Johnston in Port Arthur, Texas on February 14, 1970. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Lamar University in 1992. Together Dayne and Marilyn raised two sons in Port Arthur, TX before moving to Jasper in retirement. Marilyn worked for the Area Agency on Aging as a counselor for many years in Jefferson County. She also volunteered as a counselor for pregnant mothers in the Beaumont area in later years. Marilyn was a devout Christian, loved visiting with friends, and enjoyed reading inspirational books by women of faith. She had a beautiful, angelic voice and loved singing. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Howell Dayne Johnston; her children, Joel Dayne Johnston and Eric Wayne Johnston; daughter-in-law, Monica Rachelle (Bourgeois) Johnston; and grandchildren, Trevor Lee Johnston and Lukas Dayne Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Roy Powelson and Katie Louise Farmer; and her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Powelson and William “Bill” Ernest Powelson. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send a donation to East Texas Pregnancy Help Center https://www.etphc.org/donate A memorial service will be held at Peachtree Baptist Church at 360 Farm to Market Rd 254, Jasper, TX 75951 on June 24, 2023, at 11 am. After the service, family and friends will meet for a potluck at the same location.
