Phyllis Ann Buxton, 88, of Starks, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday, July 17, 2023. Services to honor Phyllis will be held at 10:00 AM, on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Starks, in Starks, Louisiana; Bro. Ron Butler officiating. Interment will immediately follow, at Doyle Cemetery. Visitation of family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Starks. Service arrangements were made under the care of Dorman Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born on November 20, 1934, to Mae Sue (Moore) and Joseph Lester Flanigan, in Orangefield, Texas. In 1960, after living in the Riverside and Brownwood area of Orange, Phyllis moved to Starks, Louisiana, where she remained a lifelong resident. She was a devout Christian woman and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Starks. In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed doing crafts and spending time with her family.
Preceding Phyllis in death is her beloved husband of 53 years, J.M. “Buck” Buxton, Jr.; parents, Joseph and Mae Sue Flanigan; son, Jay Buxton; great-granddaughter, Harley Frazier; daughter-in-law, Cindy Buxton; brothers, Ray Flanigan, Cecil Flanigan, Eddie Flanigan, and Lloyd Flanigan; and sister, Mary Peveto.
Those left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are her children, Don Buxton and Laura, of Starks, Louisiana, Lester Buxton and wife, Theresa, of Starks, Louisiana, and Sarah Brister and husband, Steve, of Orange, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Buxton, of Starks, Louisiana, Joe Buxton and wife, Shannon, of DeQuincy, Louisiana, Destiny Frazier and husband, Louis, of Starks, Louisiana, Miranda Alvarez and husband, Abi, of Orange, Texas, Jeremy Brister and wife, Rachel, of Orange, Texas, Michelle Ashworth, of Orange, Texas, Ricky Ashworth, of Vidor, Texas, and Hunter Brister and wife, Brandi, of Deweyville, Texas; brother, Derrald Flanigan and wife, Midge, of Orange, Texas; fourteen great-grandchildren; one granddaughter; and numerous members of extended family and friends.
Honoring Phyllis as Pallbearers are Chris Buxton, Joe Buxton, Louis Frazier, Jeremy Brister, Hunter Brister, Ricky Ashworth, and Abi Alvarez. Phyllis’ great-grandsons will be acting as Honorary Pallbearers.
Then family would like to extend a special thank you to Heart of Hospice; administrators, nurses, aides, Chaplain Alex. Also, a special thank you to Jaime, for her love and care for our mom.
