Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Orange Community Players, a 60-year-old local group, is asking for volunteers Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a work day on their new theater home. Lunch will be served.
The group lost their longtime home in downtown Orange because of flooding problems and the rising costs of insurance. Now, the group is remodeling the old Orange Twin Cinema building at 3330 Bowling Lane.
The new building is being converted into the Jeff Hattman Center for the Performing Arts. Even though the group has been without a theater, they have been having fund-raising performances and children's workshops at other locations.
Volunteers on Saturday should be at least 12 years old. Because the building is now a work zone, everyone must sign a waiver to work. Those younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Volunteer work for the non-profit group may be used for community service hours.
