The Little Cypress Mauriceville Lady Bears volleyball team won three straight district matches entering this week's action. LCM was 3-1 before its match on Tuesday night of this week.
The Lady Bears traveled to Lumberton on Tuesday, September 19, for a big district match. LCM came away with a thrilling five-set win.
LCM Coach Jonathan Snipes said Lumberton played really well with a good game plan that helped the Lady Raiders win the first set convincingly 25-12. The Lady Bears had a shaky start according to Snipes but took the second set 25-21 to even the match.
The Lady Raiders went up a set again winning 25-22 in the third. Snipes commented the Lady Bears started to play well after the third set as Little Cypress Mauriceville dominated and grabbed the fourth set 25-12 to even the match. The deciding fifth set went to the Lady Bears 15-7 for the triumph.
After the win Snipes responded, "The Lady Bears started to clean up their ball control, communication, and execution going into the fourth set. Any win in district is a big win. These girls are extremely resilient and competitive. They are so much fun when they get locked in."
It was a great team effort by Little Cypress Mauriceville. Addi Russell served 3 aces and assisted on 11 points. Paisley Angelle led in kills with 10 and added 2 blocks. Lindi Perry made 5 kills and 4 blocks. Asia Woodson contributed 7 kills and served an ace. Jada Montagne was the Lady Bear leader in assists with 13 and she served an ace. Also registering kills were Ava White with 5, Jazel Guilbeaux had 4, and Amaya Meadows had 3 kills and 2 blocks.
On Friday, September 22, the Lady Bears traveled to Jasper. LCM won all three sets 25-12, 25-13, and 25-17 to take the match.
Good play was provided by all the Lady Bears. Asia Woodson led in kills with 10, made 5 digs, and served an ace. Eden Frenzel topped LCM with 4 aces and was second with 13 digs. Ava White was the leading Lady Bear with 15 digs while serving 2 aces, and making 4 kills. Addi Russell with 16 assists was the top setter followed by Jada Montagne with 10 assists. Other Lady Bears with good games were Paisley Angelle with 6 kills and a block, Lindi Perry with 4 kills and 2 blocks, Jazel Guilbeaux with 4 kills, and Janniliz Nazario with 3 digs while also serving an ace.
Little Cypress Mauriceville resumed action on Tuesday, September 26, at West Orange-Stark. The Lady Bears next game will be this Friday at the Dr. Pauline Colburn Hargrove Gymnasium against Silsbee.
