Orangefield drops tight contest for volleyball district lead

A dramatic volleyball battle was staged on Friday, September 29, at the Orangefield Gymnasium between the Orangefield Lady Bobcats and the Anahuac Lady Panthers. Orangefield came into the match with the opportunity to tie Anahuac for the district lead at the end of the first round with a victory.

The contest went the full five sets. The Lady Bobcats lost the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23 before capturing the next two sets 25-22 and 25-18 to force the fifth set. Orangefield lost a heartbreaker 15-13 to Anahuac in the final set.

The Moore sisters Brianna and Addisyn served 9 aces between the two of them. Kaitlyn Jenkins led in kills with 13 ahead of Greenlea Oldham who had eleven. Hannah Block was tops for the Lady Bobcats with 19 digs while Addisyn Moore had 18 and Eliese Gravett made 12 digs. Lela Francis contributed 3 aces and 5 kills. Brianna Moore was a great setter with 42 assists.

Earlier last week Orangefield defeated Kountze in four sets. The Lady Bobcats won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-16 before losing the third set 23-25 to Kountze. Orangefield clinched the match winning the fourth set 25-19.

Leaders for the Lady Bobcats were Greenlea Oldham and Lela Frances with 12 kills each. Brianna Moore had a good night serving with 5 aces and Hannah Block had two unreturnable serves. Hannah led in digs with 19, Addisyn Moore made 9, and Kaylea Gravett had 8 digs. Brianna Moore added 36 assists in the victory.

The second round of district games started on Tuesday for Orangefield at home against Kirbyville. The Lady Bobcats play at home again on Friday versus Warren.
