Beverly Lorance Hulsey, 98, Orange

Beverly Lorance Hulsey, 98, passed away peacefully at Stone Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in San Augustine, Texas, on Monday, November 13, 2023.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Parish Cemetery in Orange.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2023, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Beverly, an Orange County resident for over seventy-two years, was born on December 28, 1924, in Vermontville, Michigan to Nellie Bowen Hall and Ralph Hall, Sr. Moving with her family to the southern United States, Beverly met and married Lawrence Ray Hulsey, Jr. on June 9, 1945, in Orange County Texas. Beverly helped her husband, Lawrence, in the family plumbing business and was a dispatcher for the Little Cypress Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Beverly was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange.

Beverly had a passion for playing Bridge, and it was always a very important part of her life. She earned Life Master Status in Duplicate Bridge. In Duplicate Bridge tournament play, scoring and points are based on relative performance and is extremely competitive, with other players playing identical hands of cards. As a Life Master, one must earn at least 500 Masterpoints. Beverly achieved 2,443 Masterpoints. Nothing stood in the way of a Bridge game.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Molly Ellen, her brother Ralph Hall, Jr. and her sister Patricia Hall Pettigrew.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence Ray Hulsey, III and wife Frances of Hemphill and daughter Patricia Lynn Heintzelman and husband Jim of Beaumont.

Also surviving Maw Maw are grandchildren David Hulsey and wife Tammy of Orange, Dr. Darrin Hulsey of Dublin, Ireland, Daniel Hulsey and wife Nancy of Orange, Karen Fisher and husband Kyle of Mauriceville, Elizabeth Heintzelman of Houston, Chris Heintzelman and Courtney Heintzelman of Beaumont, and Ryan James of Killeen, Texas. Maw Maw has been blessed with ten great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Serving as pallbearers will be Theron Hulsey, Trevor Hulsey, Taylor Hulsey, David Hulsey, Daniel Hulsey, Chris Heintzelman, Neil Hansen, Ryan James, and Kyle Fisher. Honorary pallbearer will be Darrin Hulsey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Orange County Association for Retarded Citizens (OCARC), 905 W Park Ave, Orange, TX 77630.
