KINDER, LA – Two iconic rock acts that helped define a generation performed in front of a sold out crowd this past weekend and appear to still be on top of their game.
Hard rock acts Warrant and Lita Ford performed this past Saturday night inside the Coushatta Casino Resort's Event Center in front of a capacity crowd in what could only be described night of great rock and roll fun.
Lita Ford, along with her band, opened the show and wasted little time in showcasing her fiery brand of hard rock that made her a household name in the late-1980s. She opened her set with the infectious rocker "Gotta Let Go" from her 1984 album, "Dancin' on the Edge," which was followed by "Larger than Life, from the 199s "Dangerous Curves" album, and "Relentless," which is off of the 2012 release. "Living Like a Runaway" and the newest song she performed that night.
As the show progressed, Lita's smile never faded and her sheer happiness from performing rock music for her adoring fans was truly visible and felt. During the latter half of the set, Lita beckoned the fans to leave their seats and move up front to the barricade at the stage after getting approval from venue security to do so. As good as the show was to this point, it got even better then as the energy inside the venue doubled.
Lita's 60 minute set was full of anthems and hits such as "Playin with Fire," "Back to the Cave," and "Can't Catch Me," which was co-written with legendary Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. The Runaways "Cherry Bomb" was a nice inclusion in the set to honor Lita's time with the iconic group.
Her final songs of the night included the Alice Cooper co-written "Only Women Bleed," and, arguably her biggest hit, "Close My Eyes Forever," which featured guitarist Patrick Kennison of the Texas-based rock act The Union Underground, handling vocals on the duet. She closed the night with "Kiss Me Deadly" which hand every fist in the venue pumping.
L.A. rock act Warrant's return to Coushatta this past weekend was the band's first trip back to the venue since June of 2014, and the band delivered a fantastic showcase featured a 16-song, 80-minute set.
The bulk of Warrant's setlist this night featured nine songs from the group's multi-platinum 1990 sophomore release, "Cherry Pie," including the first five songs of the set. The band kicked off the show with high energy rockers "Sure Feels Good To Me" and "Love in Stereo," which were followed by "Bed of Roses" and "You're the Only Hell Your Mama Ever Raised."
Vocalist Robert Mason, who has been with the band since 2008, was in fine form this night as he led the crowd through sing-alongs, such as the hit power-ballad "I Saw Red" and others. He entertained the crowd with his voice and his charm, while the band, featuring the core members of guitarists Eric Tuner and Joey Allen, and drummer, Steven Sweet, along with current bassist Robbie Crane, churned out the hits the delight of the loyal fans.
A nice surprise was the inclusion of the song "The Hole in My Wall," which is from the band's much underappreciated record, "Dog Eat Dog," released in 1992. As much nostalgia as the band brought with it, Warrant also made sure the audience remembered they still make some pretty good rock music currently as the performed the title track ""Louder Harder Faster" from its May 2017 release.
No Warrant show is complete with out a performance of the song "Heaven," and this performance was especially moving as the Kinder-faithful lit up the venue with their cell phones in tribute to Warrant's late-vocalist Jani Lane for his birthday on February 1.
The band closed the show with the songs "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and "Cherry Pie," much to the approval of the fans at the barrier and in the venue. Hopefully, Warrant does not wait another decade to make a return appearance.
