Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Love is in the Air for the Orange Community Players this Friday and Saturday as the group holds a musical review fundraiser at the Orange Train Depot.
The group of amateur theater performers and crews continue to raise money to remodel the old Twin Cinema on Bowling Lane into a theater building. The group, which dates back to the 1950s, had to abandon its longtime theater on Division Avenue in downtown because of hurricane floods in recent years. Flood insurance became too expensive to keep that building.
The theme "Love is in the Air" will cater to "friends and lovers" with a variety of songs with romantic themes. Tickets are $45 each and include wine, hors d'ouvres before the show and dessert served at intermission. Tickets are available at Lookin' Good Studios at Northway Shopping Center off 16th Street in Orange, or through the Orange Community Players Facebook page.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 16, and Saturday, February 17. The performance will begin at 7:37 p.m., the traditional time start for OCP productions. The unusual time was set decades ago because a train regularly ran through the city at one time, bringing a few minutes delay.
The Orange Train Depot is the century-old Southern Pacific Railroad station saved and renovated 10 years ago by the non-profit group Friends of the Orange Depot. The depot is at 1210 Green Avenue in Orange.
