Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
Guest speakers from Christus Orange and the Port Arthur Fire Department visited with Orangefield High School Health Science classes on Monday. Angela Webb, RN, and Jeremy Kaskos, PAFD Captain, shared information on heart function and statistics on CPR survival rates. Students got hands-on practice of both adult and infant chest compressions, as well as the opportunity to learn about a new technology that is currently beginning to be used in our area. The PAFD has a device called an AutoPulse that is used as part of resuscitative measures for patients undergoing cardiac arrest. The machine is able to provide chest compressions that are more effective than manual compressions and has been proven to increase survival rates following sudden cardiac arrest. The students were excited to learn about this device and see it in action.
