Sammy Burnell Mills, 64, of Orange TX, passed away on February 19, 2024.
Sammy was born on August 30, 1959 to Arlene Luther Mills and Lee Samuel Mills in Orange, TX. After graduated from Bridge City High School in 1977, he went on to study at Lamar University.
After graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice and Business Administration, he started his first job in his desired occupation with Orange County Sheriff Office as a Deputy and then to Jefferson County Sheriff Office where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant and retired in 2020 after 30 years of service.
Sammy met Anissa Sims while working at the Jefferson County Sheriffs Office and went on to marry her July 26, 2010.
Sam enjoyed retired life and devoted his time to family, gardening and travel.
His days were often spent with his wife and granddaughter, Scarlet Mills who was the apple of his eye.
Sammy’s life was filled with service to his community. In addition to his commitment to public service he was a volunteer fire fighter in Vidor, TX for many years and he also was a volunteer rescue diver.
Among his other achievements, Sammy served as President with the Lions Club Chapter in Orange, TX and was also student body president at Lamar University.
Sammy Mills was preceded in death by his father, Lee Samuel Mills in 2023.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Anissa Mills and his son, Kyle Mills, (Rosemary Mills) and his granddaughter, Scarlet Mills, his mother, Arlene Luther Mills, and his brother, Jerry Mills (Donna Mills).
A celebration of life for Sammy Mills will be held at the Historic Orange Train Depot Museum at 1210 W Green Ave, Orange TX 77630 on Sunday March 24, 2024 at 2 pm.
