Hometown News For Orange County, Texas
The world-famous Gator Country will be appearing at the Orange Riverside Pavilion off Simmons Drive on Wednesday, July 17, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The program about American alligators is part of the Orange Public Library's Summer Reading Program for elementary-age children. However, because of the popularity of the subject and the displays with live alligators, the library is opening the event to all ages and the public.
The presentation will focus on educating students about the alligator, which was once an endangered species. Alligators have become common in Southeast Texas, including in the Sabine River, which is adjacent to the Riverside Pavilion.
The pavilion is covered and will provide shade. However, people attending should bring chairs for sitting along with water to drink.
Even though pre-school age children are invited to the alligator presentation, the library will still host the Read-to-Me story time at the library on Fifth Street from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
The Orange Public Library has also started taking reservations for its 2024 summer escape room game, which is fun for families and groups to see if they can figure out the rules to get out of the room. The library is hinting that this year's theme is a classic story, perhaps involving a castle.
The escape room will be from July 26 through August 17 during library hours. More information and reservations are available through calling the library at 409-883-1086.
The library's annual Summer Reading Program will end on Wednesday, July 24, with the traditional carnival of games, snacks, and prizes. Kids will be able to use the library "bucks" they earned for reading to exchange for gifts.
The library also has special summer programs for readers of middle school and high school age students that meet on evenings.
