MILTON CAUSES RECORD EARLY DEADLINE
In early predictions hurricane Milton, a category four storm, barrels towards Florida, due Wednesday evening. Thankfully, that has been delayed. However the fear of evacuation and losing power threw us into an early Tuesday afternoon deadline. Mark Dunn, who produces our publications, is in Florida and feared that if we waited any longer to complete the papers to send to press we would be gambling. The eye of the storm is predicted to go over his home as it passes across the Florida Peninsula later. He says it has been raining since Saturday. Florida and surrounding states have really been hit hard this summer. “God bless them.”*****Come along, I promise it won’t do you no harm.

Bridge City football under Coach Josh Smalley is flying higher than the Cardinals have since 1972. Their first 4-0 start is led by a versatile senior quarterback Hutch Bearden, a good athlete who has fast wheels, whose throwing arm is getting smoother and more accurate every week. On their last outing the Cards dominated Vidor 49-20. B.C. is marching through district 10-4A-1 undefeated with a district championship on the line. Coach Smalley, a former Bridge City High star, is proud of his team’s work ethic, thankful for a good staff, who have put together the successful offence and defense the fans have been waiting for. Fontenot say, “It’s going to be a bumper sugar cane crop wit all da rain we had.”
Clovees say, yea, a lot of grass for da cattle too. By da way, me I bought a young registered bull from Sostan Comeaux, gave him $2,700 cash. Dat bull jus ate grass and wouldn’t even look at a cow, not even da young heifers. I was starting to believe I had paid too much for dat bum steer me.”
Fontenot say, “Wat you gonna do, hanh?”
Clovees say, “Well, I had da vet Dr. Leblanc come and look at him. He said dat bull was healthy, jus need a boost. He gave me some medicine to put in his feed once a day.”
“Did dat do any good? Fontenot axe.
“Dat bull started to service da cows in two days him, he even broke through da fence and bred wit all my neighbor Boudreaux’s cows. He’s like a machine him,” said Clovees,
“Keyaw,” said Fontenot, ”Wat was in da medicine da vet gave him hanh?”

CNN FACT CHECK AND DISTORTIONS
Former President Donald Trump has delivered a barrage of lies and distortions about the federal response to Hurricane Helene. The Republican presidential nominee has been one of the country’s leading deceivers on the subject. Over a span of six days, in public comments and social media posts, Trump has used his powerful megaphone to endorse or invent false or unsubstantiated claims. The chief targets of his hurricane-related dishonesty have been Vice President Kamala Harris, his opponent in the November presidential election, and President Joe Biden. During a visit to Georgia on Monday, Trump said of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp: “He’s been calling the president, hasn’t been able to get him.” Trump’s claim was false. Kemp, a Republican, told reporters earlier Monday that he had spoken with Biden the day prior. Kemp added: “He just said, ‘Hey, what do you need? I appreciate that. But we’ve had FEMA embedded with us since a day or two before the storm hit in our state. We’ve got a great relationship with them.”
Monday: Trump cites baseless ‘reports’ about anti-Republican bias in the North Carolina response. Trump said of North Carolina: “I’ll be there shortly, but don’t like the reports that I’m getting about the Federal Government, and the Democrat Governor of the State, going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas. There was no apparent basis for the underlying claim that the Biden administration and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper were maliciously abandoning certain communities.
Thursday: Trump falsely claims the Biden-Harris response had received ‘universally’ negative reviews. Though the Biden administration’s response had certainly received criticism, it had also been praised by various state and local leaders, including the Republican governors of some of the affected states and the Democratic governor of North Carolina, plus local leaders including the Democratic mayor of the hard-hit North Carolina city of Asheville. For example, Republican South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said at a Tuesday press conference that federal assistance had “been superb.” Thursday: Trump falsely claims Harris spent ‘all her FEMA money’ billions of dollars, on housing illegal migrants. He added in an election-related conspiracy theory, saying, “They stole the FEMA money, just like they stole it from a bank, so they could give it to their illegal immigrants that they want to have vote for them this season.” This is false, a total lie. I don’t know why Trump does that. It helps no one to be divisive during a disaster. That’s when all Americans should stick together and uplift each other.*****I’ve used up my time but I sure thank you for yours. I deeply appreciate your loyalty to this column.
